Low Tox Cleaning
DIY Dishwasher Tablets

DIY Dishwasher Tablets

Hey everyone, I was whipping up some dishwashing tablets at 9.45pm tonight (because they are so easy to do), and I had some inspiration to share with you guys the recipes that I make at home to ensure they are a healthier and cleaner option for my family.

They are made with only 5 ingredients too so making my own products isn’t labour intensive at all, plus it’s actually kinda fun and rewarding knowing that I’ve helped our family avoid toxins in another area of our household.

I remember when I first started using essential oils, my goal was to “go low tox” but to be honest, there was SO much information out there that I had no idea where to start and I put it off for a whole year and when I finally started, I realised how easy it was and now I can’t even remember the names of the commercial cleaners on the supermarket shelves anymore — That is how I’d rather it be!

It’s easy.
It’s fun.
It’s healthy.
Super cost effective.
You should totally give it a go.

Ingredients:
♡ 300g Sodium Carbonate.
♡ 200g Borax Powder.
♡ 100g Fine Pink Himalayan Salt.
♡ 250g Citric Acid.
♡ 30 drops Lemon Essential Oil.

Method:
1. Combine all ingredients together in a bowl, mixing until well combined.

2. Using a tablespoon to spoon the mixture into silicone ice cube trays and pack them down firmly.

3. Allow mixture to harden in a cool, dry place for at least 24/48 hours or until very firm and dry.

4. Gently turn the silicone ice cube tray over and too the tablets out one by one then transfer into an airtight container.

I absolutely adore my love heart moulds, they make the cutest little tablets that look gorgeous in jars. I got them at Target.

When they’re ready for use, simply place the tablets into the dishwasher or if they’re too big, place on the floor of the dishwasher and run the cycle for beautiful, sparkling clean dishes that are safe for your family to eat off of.

Tips:

1. You can leave the tablets as a blank canvas to add the oils you wish to use as you use them.

2. If your tablets don’t set in the silicone tray, you can add the mixture to an airtight container and you can add a spoonful of the mixture into the dishwasher.

3. The tablets can also double as an amazing toilet fizz and is a great way to easily clean your toilet often without having to put in too much effort — topped with purifying essential oils, your loo will smell so refreshing!

If you’re looking at making the change in your home, but you’re feeling overwhelmed, my advice, pick just one area in your home and focus on swapping out the products used in that area only.
When your satisfied, choose another area to work with until you’re happy. The health benefits of reducing your toxic load in your body and home are awaiting you.

Love Hayley xo
